I’m sitting here watching the handyman work on my window blinds at my place. It’s 7:11 am right now. I woke up up 6:00 am this morning, a time far too early to be fully conscious. Fortunately, I didn’t deprive myself of too much sleep, as I went to bed shortly after 10:00 pm last night.
So, what should I write about? How about Sunday’s events? It’s a little belated, but better late than never, I figure. On Sunday morning, I walked out onto the balcony and saw a curious sight on the overhang, a hive! I’m not much of an expert on bees or wasps, but I do know a hive when I see one. There were dozens upon dozens of these bees, wasps, or jellowjackets swarming around the honeycombed structure that they built. Absolutely amazing and definitely something to be left alone. Hopefully, they aren’t Africanized Honey Bees!
I grabbed my camera and stuck it as closed as I could to the hive, snapping some shots off before I figured it was better to admire from a distance than risk getting too close.
I hung around the house until the early afternoon, when I decided to ride my bike down to the Moffett Field Air Show. This weekend saw a lot of traffic to Mountain View, with people clogging up Moffett Blvd with car and foot traffic. I didn’t wear any socks when I rode down to Moffett. Bad move. Because I didn’t want to ruin my cycling cleats on the hard asphalt, I decided to take the shoes off and walk barefoot. The first thirty minutes were fine, but the last ten to twenty were pretty painful! I had a small case of “almost blisters,” which is that feeling you get when your skin starts to burn on the soles of your feet. Fortunately, they were only temporary; the next day, my feet felt fine!
I had brought my camera with me, the D30 along with the 17-35mm and the 70-200mm. There was a throng of people at the air show with cameras, SLRs, point and shoots, and of course digital cameras. I saw an E-10 or two, but I didn’t see any Canon D30’s nor Nikon D1’s among the crowd. Walking around with the D30 and the 70-200mm, along with barefeet, screams a couple of things to one’s mind, “Who is that guy?”, “Why is he wearing no shoes?”, and “Look at the size of that lens!” I tried to keep the lens out of the way by holding the camera behind my back, but man, that thing is heavy!
It was nice to see a lot of families at Moffett. I remember going with my Dad to Brown Airfield in San Diego in the 80s and seeiing this giant AN-124 transport plane from the USSR. It was bigger than the Galaxy of the U.S. Airforce! At this airshow, however, there weren’t that many planes on the ground: a few F-18’s, a couple of helicopters, and some transport planes. I do wish that I could have shot some planes flying in the air. After all, they were flying when I was riding my bike in! When I got to the field, however, they had all landed! Then, after I began to ride back home, they started flying again! As Amabelle says, “Son of a motherless goat!”
I didn’t stay that long at the Moffett Air Show because I had to meet up with Randy to go to the housewarming party of Denise Morris in San Jose. I took along the little S100 digital camera, since I wasn’t really in the mood to take too many pictures. In a pinch, that camera will do just fine.
One of Denise’s roommates was named, Elsa, which is such a cool name! I ran into Robert, a former co-worker of mine at DoDots. We didn’t even know that we both knew Denise, which prompts me again to say, “Small world!” Although we didn’t stay long at the housewarming, I had a good time relaxing. I didn’t eat that much, but Randy did; he must have chowed down on two or three burgers while he was there!
I got back home around 6:00 pm and hung out with Randy until he had to leave around 6:30 pm. At the same time, Rae came by and we spent the evening making scrumptious won tons and steamed salmon. Afterwards, we watched Poltergeist and Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The funny thing about the Star Wars movie was we saw it in Cantonese on VCD! Hah! You have to admit after watching that, Jar Jar isn’t that bad of a character!
Rae and I had fun making up lines for the movie. For instance, during all the Jar Jar scenes, we pretended Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan were saying things like, “When are we going to dump this little turd?” or “Is he still here? Obi-Wan, kill him, now!”
The jokes reserved for the scenes between little Anakin and Padme/Queen Amidala were equally harsh! Let’s just hope that the next movie, Attack of the Clones, whose title I’m still shuddering at, will be much better and more realistic at developing their relationship. I enjoyed TPM, mind you, but it doesn’t come close to the original trilogy. Among the first three, The Empire Strikes Back takes top helm!
It’s 7:56 right now and my blinds have been installed. Yeah! Now, it’s time to close this early morning entry.
