No, this wasn’t the Stanford Newton User Group meeting tonight at the Printer’s Inc. Cafe; that was last week and the fourth Tuesday of every month. Many of the same people who attend the SNUG meetings were present at the SPUG meeting, however, including Flash, Glen, Dave and Roger.
Rounding out the crowd were two representatives from Handheld Computing Magazine (formerly known at Tap Magazine), Shiloh Rusk and Quinn. The folks at Handheld Computing have been organizing SyncFest 2001, a gathering of Palm Powered Device Users happening on San Jose on October 27, 2001 at the San Jose Airport Hilton. There’ll be exhibitors, users, developers, and representatives from Palm present at the first ever SyncFest. If you’re interested in meeting people from the Palm Economy, this might be a good event to check out!
Glen, who’s always got something up his sleeve (literally!), showed us some knots that he’s been learning. I’ve got to learn that Tautline knot, which will come in handy when I go backpacking later this month. Got to make that tent nice and steady in the wind, after all!
After SPUG, I stopped by one of my favorite sushi joints, Homma’s Brown Rice Sushi. This is a great place to get great sushi handmade right in front of you! Brown rice has a different texture and taste over traditional white Japanese rice. I’m not sure which I prefer, but I do know that sushi is yummy yummy for my tummy! I once read that Trent Dilfer, former quarterback for the Ravens and Buccaneers, said that if he could, he would go on an all sushi diet! That sounds yummy, albeit a little expensive.
I was talking with the owner of Homma’s, and he was telling me he gets his fish supplies from from a supplier in the San Mateo/San Francisco area. Everyday, they bring fresh fish to Homma’s. That reminds me of the times when Adam from Szechuan Cafe in Palo Alto used to deliver food twice a week to the Teahouse back in the Stanford days.
Of course, the sushi was delectable. How could it not be?
