Now that I’m independent, I have more time with which to exercise every day and lose all those pounds gained since the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020.

My YT Short describing the shortcut in 30 seconds.

And so two years ago, I had written this Wake Settings shortcut to address the problem of accidental waking on the part of the phone. I had modified it from what I originally posted to be more tuned to my fitness needs:

  1. Prompt the user to turn on or off the Fitness Focus Mode.
  2. Turn on or off the Always On display depending on the user’s choice in Step 1.
  3. Navigate to the Brightness and Display page in Settings.
  4. Prompt the user to turn or or off Raise to Wake.
  5. When the user tapped OK, navigate to the Accessibility page and prompt the user to tap Touch and toggle the Tap or Swipe to Wake setting.
  6. Prompt the user to return to the Home screen.
Calculating how many miles I walked or ran today.

I am always looking for ways to speed this up, and I noodled around ideas on how to detect if I had already run earlier in the day. My revised shortcut accesses my Health data and evaluates my Walking + Running Distance. If the daily total is:

  • Less than two miles: I have not been running, so turn on the Fitness Focus Mode, turn off the Always On display and proceed to Step 3.
  • Greater than two miles: I have finished my morning run, so turn off Fitness Focus Mode, turn on the Always On display and proceed to Step 3.

You can download this shortcut by clicking on the button below:

I’m hoping iOS 18 provides even more shortcut actions to programmatically control the Raise to Wake and Tap or Swipe to Wake settings. This would allow the shortcut to do everything without me having to tap OK to any prompts. Only a few more weeks to WWDC till we find out what they’ve added to Shortcuts.
