I’ve posted a quick recap from the COBA meeting last night. If you were unable to make it to the meeting, you can download Chris’ presentation.
A number of people came to see the Canon EOS 5D first-hand. Mark and Steve were two members who have already received their 5D’s. The interest in the camera ranged from 10D/20D owners looking to upgrade, those who are looking to buy their first digital SLR, and 1D-series users who want a full-frame backup.
As for me, I wouldn’t mind getting the camera, but I think I’m going to wait a little bit longer. I have grown used to the control layout on the 1D-series, and I am not sure if I want to switch back and forth between the 20D-style layout on the 5D and my existing cameras. I love the relative small size of the 5D (body only: 2 pounds compared to 1D’s 3.54 pounds!). After a long day of shooting, my arm really feels the weight of the 1D. I have no clue if Canon will be releasing a smaller version of their 1D lineup; if they ever do, however, I’ll be one of the first in line to order!
Next month will be a fun month. Eric Cheng is back from a number of underwater excursions, and he will be updating us on the state of underwater photography at the November 9, 2005, COBA meeting.
