I’ve known Eric and John since high school. We were brought together by the computer bulletin board systems (BBS). I have fond memories of waking up at 6:00 in the morning to log into my favorite BBSes in order to play my round of TradeWars 2002. John and I have had a number of fun adventures in Japan and in Vegas; Eric and I frequently see each other since we’re both in the Bay Area, while John is living and working in San Diego.

During the PalmSource 2000 Conference, John came up to our neck of the woods for a company training class. We went to the Fish Market restaurant in San Mateo for a nice night of remembrance and conversation.

Seeing Evil Red

Near the end of the evening, we decided to play around with D30 to create some interesting shots. The two pictures were composed when Eric placed a red tablemat below the subjects’ faces. He then flipped the camera upside down and aimed the flash unit directly at the red tablemat. The resulting photos were striking in their sense of evil or darkness. I didn’t get a chance to give Eric an equally evil looking face, so he just made one for me.
