LJCDS 10-Year Reunion

I felt the past ten years wash over me like rushing water on the shores when I walked into the Beach House Brewery Saturday night for my high school’s 10-year reunion. Memories enveloped me like the rising tide, around the feet, ankles, knees, and legs. I had thought my 5-year college reunion was a bizarre trip down memory lane, but this was much more eerie. 10 years is a long time, more than enough to shed away the awkward, clique, dorky, nerdy, or jock attitudes from high school. 10 years, however, is not enough time to forget the LJCDS Alma Mater; I surprised myself when I started to sing the song following Jared’s lead!

Thanks go out to the organizers, including Jared Polis, Marejka Shaevitz, Barrett Achartz, Julie Tice, Alison Jones, Marc Dare, and everyone else who helped to organize the event. It was really, really nice to see all of you again. I only wish that we had more time. 3 hours is certainly not enough time to recap the past ten years. In the past 10 years, a number of us have gotten married, so congratulations to Brittany, Barrett, David, Tammi, Jill, Alison, Jenifer, Cheryl, and Faye (and anyone else who I missed!).

I was glad to see that most of the old lunch group had reconvened. Barrett, Jerry, Jared, David, and I used to eat lunch every day (sunshine permitted) in the Amphitheatre. David (or Monsieur André) is now Dr. Simon, Jared is off saving the world, Jerry looks younger than he did in high school, and Barrett’s become the family man. It’s too bad that Sid Constantinescue couldn’t have come, as he would have completed the lunch group (as would have Darren Lurrie and Stephen Harris). David Jay and I have known each other for 20 years, and it was great to meet his wife, Sasha. I haven’t seen AZ in ages, and it’s cool to see that he’s continuing the family tradition with his new restaurant, My Place, in downtown La Jolla.

The past two years, I’ve attended my father’s 45th and 46th high school reunions. They were both tremendous events, and it’s my hope that this 10-year reunion will be the beginning of a long tradition for the Class of 1993. Speaking of which, here is our group photo. 30 of us out of a class of around 64 students (counting those who left Country day before senior year).

So, we’ve got to make the next reunion bigger and better than before. Barrett and I will be working on an alumni web site (who needs Classmates.com?), so we can keep in touch with everyone from our class. Stay tuned for more details on that.

In the meantime, let’s have a look at some photos! Thanks to Rae, we have some great photos from La Jolla Country Day School’s Class of 1993 10-Year High School Reunion! Enjoy them and see you at the next reunion!

Feel free to leave some comments to your other classmates in the comments section below. Thanks again!

Hello – I’m trying to make contact with Barrett Achartz. I am Eli Mander’s mom and was happy to attend his wedding. I will be in San Diego from approximately 10/14/05 until 10/21/05. I would like to stop by and see your parents, but do not have their last names, address and phone number. Could you pass that info on to me?

Congratulations to you and your wife on becoming parents. What a thrill. Send along the details. Eli is well and still traveling around all over the place, currently in Maine. Hope all is well and thanks in advance.
