After a year of living in Palo Alto following graduation, I moved to Easy Street in Mountain View. I stayed there for four years before moving to Cupertino and eventually Santa Clara. I was forwarded this article about a gun death on Easy Street this past weekend.
Mountain View police on Sunday were investigating the city’s first homicide since 2005, a police spokeswoman said.
Around 12:30 a.m., police were called to the 300 block of Easy Street to reports of gunfire followed by screaming, spokeswoman Liz Wylie said. Upon arrival, officers found a 24-year-old man on the street with multiple gunshot wounds, Wylie said.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to Stanford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Wylie said.
No suspects were in custody.
“We have lots and lots of leads and evidence that we’re sorting through right now,” said Wylie, who described the Easy Street neighborhood as “very residential.”
The victim, she said, was a longtime Mountain View resident, but police were unsure of his most recent address.
Where has the neighborhood gone? In thinking back, I guess crime wasn’t that far away from Easy Street. I remember photographing a drug bust along the road back in 2001.
