In 2007, Raven Zachary and Dom Sagolla organized the first iPhoneDevCamp for the Apple iPhone. In subsequent years, they held additional events, iOSDevCamp and iPadDevCamp, that brought together members of the Apple developer community for a weekend of learning, hacking, and developing applications for these mobile devices. You can see in the photos below how the numbers grew dramatically over the years, matching the explosive trajectory of the devices’ growth in the marketplace.
It’s been a minute, but Raven and Dom are back with VisionDevCamp next week, March 29-31, 2024, in Santa Clara, California. Tickets are still available and are just $100, which includes meals for all three days of the event.
I’m looking forward to attending, even though I don’t have an Apple Vision Pro myself. I deliberately held off on purchasing one since I’ve been busy restarting my indie software business and updating MsgFiler, which happens to pre-date iPhoneDevCamp! I’m not going completely blind into VisionDevCamp, as I attended an Apple developer lab several months ago.
If you are interested in Apple’s foray into spatial computing, come to VisionDevCamp. Bring an app idea, and even if you don’t have an Apple Vision Pro, you might just find a team that’s willing to work with you on developing it.
As for whether I’ll be taking the group photo for the event, we’ll see! I’ve largely moved away from photography to video production, and my trusty Canon 5D Mark IV acts as my webcam today.
