Stanford Basketball, 20-0

Man, what a game! Randy and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about the Stanford men’s basketball team, which was 19-0 going into their Saturday matchup against the Arizona Wildcats. Dick Vitale made a rare West Coast appearance to announce the game along with Brent Musberger. Also in the crowd were celebrities such as Tiger Woods, Larry Ellison, Jim Plunkett, and Bill Walsh.

Randy would be a great play-by-play announcer. “Stanford’s out like a Silicon Valley IPO! But, will they come crashing down to Earth like Netscape or continue to rise like Google?” Sure, most of his comments are in-jokes for those who went to Stanford or live in the Bay, but they’re still great. It certainly beats the boring play-by-play announcing we typically hear at sporting events.

I should have signed up to photograph the event for the Daily. With only two home games left, I’ve got to get one basketball game under my belt. Stay tuned for more on that.

It looked really bleak near the end of the game, but when we saw Yuji on TV, cheering in the 6th Man section, our hopes were reignited. Down 4 points with 58 seconds to go, Stanford didn’t disappoint, getting a steal and a 3-pointer to tie the game and another steal and 3-pointer to win the game. Randy and I jumped up and down screaming our elation. We even called up Dardy on iChat to celebrate!
